Hello!
I really wanted to play along with the Paper Smooches sketch challenge this week, but I struggled big time with it! Though I really wanted to do something a little outside the box (did you see Savannah's DT card?!! - so cool!), I ended up going pretty simple and basic. The divided circle reminded me of the ground and the sky. I decided to make the ground a snowy one and create a little Christmas card scene. Now, I'm not normally one to make my Christmas cards throughout the year. Typically I leave it to the last minute and cram everything into December. But maybe now that I've got one in the stash, I will keep making them throughout the year and actually be prepared for once...maybe!! If I have any chance at all of keeping up with this, I think the Merry Monday challenge is the place I need to be!
Here's the card:
I used embossing paste to create the snow, but should have only filled it in a quarter way up the circle (just like the sketch told me to!) - and maybe should have smoothed it out a bit more too (it looks more like icing!). The top of the circle is vellum, and there is a light blue piece of cardstock behind it to give the look of a blue sky. For the heart border, I snipped the die to extend it a little further (ie there are no hearts directly behind the snowman). I used my Wink of Stella pen for the first time to shimmer up these hearts. Again, very simple. Just happy that I got a chance to play and that I have my very first 2014 Christmas card made already!
Here's the sketch:
That's it from me! Hope you are having a good weekend, and getting a chance to be crafty!
Shannon
genius. love the snow! Such a cute card!
ReplyDeleteYour card is adorable, Shannon! I like the snow, it looks like real snow does after it's been on the ground for more than a day. It never stays pristine for long. I love the way you did your sky, too, and the heart horizon against the chevron background! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteMade me Smile when I saw this! So ADORABLE...love the snow effect, very COOL! Hugs <3
ReplyDeleteOooooh there's my favorite little egg snowman guy! I'll bet I've used that little guy more than any other stamp I have! I love what you've done with him! That background paper is so cute and I love the cut out circle with the icing snow! heheheh!! Super cute card! :)
ReplyDeleteShannon, this is such a sweet card! I adore that little snowman and what a genius idea to use embossing paste as the snow! Thanks for sharing your talent with this week's Paper Smooches SPARKS challenge! :)
ReplyDeleteTotally sweet and beyond creative cleverness!!!
ReplyDeleteI love all the little details you added...the rounded corners of the chevron paper; the 'deep' snow (which looks great)....just pretend that this snow fellow lives in Manitoba; snipping the border to make it work for your card; the perfect placement of the sentiment; and the nice shading and color that you added to the snow guy!
Totally fun & whimsical!
Oh my! How did I miss this cutie patootie, adorable x a zillion snowman, nestled in *the* perfect ebossing paste + vellum snowbank, wearing his signature heart and "waving' from his stunning chevron background? LOVE this oodles and bunches! Try as I might, I couldn't wrap my head around that sketch, and here you are...working your amazing magic once again (eeee...you've even shaded him!!). Darling card - and yes, you are 100% ahead of me with Christmas cards - nary a one in my stash! Crazy-hectic at work, but I'll be in touch VERY soon! Hugs~c
