The Dreaded Guy Card

I can't believe I have been gone from my blog for a week!  Felt good to get back in my little card room to get creative!  First on the agenda: making a card for my husband's bestie (although I'm pretty sure they don't call each other that!) whose birthday is coming up next week.  And I really wanted to play along with Lisa Arana's Wanna Sketch #7 challenge again this month.  The bigger challenge - making a guy card!  They are SO HARD to make!  But using Lisa's sketch was a huge inspiration and I was actually able to come up with something I didn't mind!  Those occasions seldom happen in the "guy card department"!!

Here's the sketch:

Lisa's take on it is awesome - you have to check it out!

And here's my take:

The gray background is just laying the paper into wet ink - it gives such a cool look.  I stamped the hexagons in versamark and white embossed them.  Made my own little happy birthday banner, added the clip from Paper Smooches (I've been wanted to use that for so long!), a few sentiments in red, yellow chevron stamped 3/4 across the panel and some polka dots from TAWS.  Finished it off with some splatters.

Hope you're enjoying your day!  Thank you so much for stopping by to see me!

  1. Shannon, you have totally won the best "male bestie card" award!!! This is rocking fabulous! I love how you took the sketch and make a guy card. Go you! You rock my socks girlie, thank you so much for playing along with wanna sketch.

  2. That is an awesome guy card!! Great job, Shannon! I have such a hard time making cards for guys but this one look great! I really like the yellow behind the gray tag! :)

  3. Nothing to 'dread' about this card, Shannon - it's FABULOUS for your husband's 'bestie'! I'll echo Lisa: brilliant way to transform the sketch into a most artsy, eye-catching, perfect guy card! Definitely some 'must try' lessons here: paper dipped into ink, embossing with clear powder (finally I have some!!), the 'subtle' messages (Shannon's special touch evident once again!!) in red, and the yellow splash to catch the eye! AWESOME x AWESOME!! You've rocked the 'wanna sketch' totally!!

  4. You sure do have the layered thing happening girl! Amazing knack for pulling out the PERFECT stamps that blend together so well, especially with the colors that you have used!

Beyond awesome job on the background! Totally fabulous for a guy card - especially with the white embossed hexagons! You have rocked, nailed, hammered....make that jack-hammered the guy thing in a huge way!

WOW!!! (I would type that in a larger and bold font if I knew how to do that in this comment section)

  5. Super cool! Love the manly colors and the vibrant chevron yellow and great embossed touches!!

Booyah, you nailed the bestie card!!!

  6. Love it! From the title, I thought you meant the recipient was 'the dreaded' one lol

  7. I love this sketch too! The clip is a wonderful addition to the fun background!

Thank you for leaving me a comment - I appreciate them so much!
